Dean Burmester Driving Distance Stats

Dean Burmester Driving Distance Stats

Dean Burmester is a professional golfer that plays most of his tournaments on the DP World Tour. He is classified as a South African, although he was actually born in Zimbabwe.

While most aspects of his game are impressive, it’s his distance off the tee that really sets him apart from other professional golfers. He is literally in the same ballpark as Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Ryan Fox, regularly ranking as one of the longest hitters on the DP World Tour (European Tour). Put another way, his swing speed regularly goes over 125+ miles per hour during tournament play.

There are only 3 high profile professionals that have a good chance of outdriving him regularly, namely: Cameron Champ, Wilco Nienaber and Bryson DeChambeau.

Now let’s take a closer look at how far this lad can smack a golf ball.

In his rookie season on the European Tour in 2016, Dean Burmester topped the driving distance stats, with an average distance of 316.02 yards off the tee.
Since then, Burmester has consistently ranked inside the top 4 longest hitters on the European tour, with the only exception being 2017, when he ranked 8th for driving distance (306.41 yards).

Burmester has achieved an average driving distance over 320 yards twice in his career, namely 2018 (320.08 yards) and 2020 (328.81) yards.

In 2020, Burmester achieved his longest average driving distance ever at 328.81 yards. This would have placed him No.1 during any previous season on the Europan Tour. However, a young lad by the name of Wilco Nienaber pipped him to the prize, with a staggering average driving distance of 340.47 yards.

Please note – One of the reasons the European Tour Driving distance stats were outrageously long in 2020 is because of covid 19. In essence, a large percentage of the 2020 tournaments were played at altitude in Gauteng (Johannesburg).  The impact of Joburg events usually peters out over the course of a full season. However, the 2020 season was reduced due to covid, so those Joburg events ended up having a larger impact on average driving distance than they normally would.

It’s pretty clear that Burmester’s driving distance stats on the PGA tour aren’t as impressive as his stats on the DP World Tour. This is primarily because he doesn’t have a PGA tour card, and doesn’t collect enough drives to b ranked by the PGA Tour.

Nevertheless, Burmester has averaged over 306 yards in 3 of the 4 seasons that he has played on the PGA tour. Also, he provided a better glimpse of what he is capable of in 2019, when he averaged 319.3 yards off the tee, on the US PGA Tour.

Final Thoughts

At this point, it should be pretty clear that Burmester is significantly longer than most professional golfers. He quite literally hits bombs every time he has a driver in his hands, and it is comfortably the standout feature of his game.

In addition, Burmester also appears to be getting better with age. He is a multiple winner on the European tour, and the sunshine tour, and his winning percentage appears to be improving.

For the next 5-8 years, it is reasonable to expect Burmester’s name to be a regular feature on the DP World leaderboards, and there is a strong possibility that he will collect more victories along the way.

The only doubt is whether or not he will be able to win on the PGA tour, given that he has yet to qualify for a PGA tour card. That being said, if his current trajectory as a professional is anything to go by, a PGA tour victory is not outside the realm of possibility.
