Callaway Apex 19 vs Apex Pro 19 – Irons Comparison

Quick Summary

What Is The Difference Between Callaway Apex And Apex Pro?

The Callaway Apex Irons are forged player-distance irons designed for low and mid-handicap players. They are slightly larger and more forgiving than they Apex Pro Irons. The Apex Irons have strong player-distance lofts which are similar to the Taylormade P790’s and the Ping i500 loft settings.

The Callaway Apex Pro are forged, tour performance irons that still deliver on the distance front. They are designed for highly skilled, low handicap golfers that don’t want to compromise on feel. The Apex Pro irons have more traditional lofts than the Apex Irons. To consider putting these in the bag, you need to be a solid and consistent ballstriker.

As you can see from the loft comparison above, there is a massive difference between the Apex Irons and the Apex Pro Irons.

The Apex Irons fall firmly within the player-distance category that has become so popular in recent years. You can expect to gain at least a club if you are upgrading from an older set of irons (anything released before 2015). This is partially because the 7 iron of a player-distance iron set is effectively a 6 iron from a loft perspective. This applies to every iron in the set.

Conversely, the Apex Pro Irons definitely have a more retro loft setup. They are still reasonably strong lofts, but the 8 iron is still an 8 iron (rather than a 7 iron in disguise).

The net result is that the Apex Irons will definitely travel further than the Apex Pro irons, on a club for club level.

Final Thoughts

Apex vs Apex Pro - Face Profile - Iron Comparison

In the end the difference between these irons is clear cut.

The Apex 19 irons have more game improvement technology and stronger lofts. They will cater to a wider range of handicaps (0-12 is a good guideline).

The Apex Pro irons are the sleeker of the two, with more traditional lofts and a considerably thinner topline. Ultimately, the Apex Pro irons are only really suited to low handicaps that want more control, better feel and don’t necessarily need the game improvement features found in the standard Apex irons.
