Best WristLock Putters

Best WristLock Putters – 2022 Buyer’s Guide

WristLock Putters are an entirely new product category that is being pioneered primarily by Evnroll and Guerin Rife. This type of putting style is very similar to armlock putting, but there are some key differences, namely:

  1. Wristlock putters are easier to hold against the inside of your lead wrist
  2. WristLock putters promote a less aggressive forward press than armlock putters
  3. Wristlock putters can be slightly shorter than arm lock putters because it isn’t necessary for the grip to run as far up your forearm. The main thing is for the grip of the putter to rest comfortably against the lower part of your wrist (basically where your hand connects to your wrist)

The ER2v ML is best suited to players that normally play with a blade-style putter. Of the available options, it should give you the most feel, but it is also the least forgiving on off-center strikes.

How long should a wrist lock putter be?

There is actually a very simple way to workout how long a wrist lock putter should be. Take the length of your current putter, and simply add 6 inches. That is the rule of thumb recommended by Evnroll, who are the pioneers of this particular product category.

Evnroll WristLock Putter Length Guide

The table above provides the recommended wrist lock putter length, using your current putter as the baseline measurement.

Length34″40″
Length35″41″

There is just one word of warning with regards to WristLock putter length, especially if you are ordering the product online.

Basically, if you aren’t 100% sure about the right length, it is probably best to go for the shorter option.

If the length is too long, you run the risk of it feeling more like an arm lock putter than a normal putter. The goal with wristlock putters is to find the happy medium between these two putting styles.

Can you put a wrist lock grip on any putter?

Technically speaking you can put a wrist lock grip on any putter. However, if you do so, you are likely to encounter two fundamental issues.

1. Standard Length Putters aren’t long enough for a WristLock Grip

As mentioned earlier, the shaft of a WristLock putter should be 6 inches longer than a standard putter. The extra length makes it relatively easy to hold the putter grip against the inside of your leading wrist during the stroke.

If you choose to install a WristLock Grip on a standard length putter, you will have to bend over significantly more than you currently do. You may look like Michelle Wie or Jack Nicklaus when you stand over the ball.

2. The Loft of a Standard Putter Is Too Low

The loft of most normal putters is about 3 degrees, whereas the recommended loft of a WristLock putter is 4 degrees.

The main reason it is helpful to have extra loft is because of the natural forward press that is established with a WristLock grip. Thankfully, you can actually alter the loft of your putter, if you work with a good club fitter.

Is WristLock Putting Legal

As it stands, WristLock Putting and WristLock Grips are 100% legal in tournament play. This applies to both professional and amateur golfers.

To further verify this statement, consider the diagram below, which clearly outlines what putting styles are permitted, and what putting styles are prohibited by the rules of golf.

Golf Rule 14-1b

As you can see in the close-up image above, it is perfectly acceptable for the grip of the putter to rest against the forearm. This is why professionals are allowed to use arm lock putters and wristlock putters in any tournament.

Furthermore, it seems unlikely that this rule will change any time soon. The USGA made it clear that fixed anchor points are the problem. Your forearm isn’t considered a fixed anchor point when using a wristlock putter, because it moves throughout the stroke.
